02-Apr-2019 Kelly IP Partner, Stephanie Bald, has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, to serve on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Trademark Public Advisory Committee (TPAC). Stephanie has been appointed to serve on the committee for a three-year term ending December 1, 2021.

TPAC is a statutorily created committee that reviews the policies, goals, performance, budget, and user fees of trademark operations and advises the USPTO on these matters. TPAC held its first quarterly public meeting of 2019 on January 25.

In addition to her service on TPAC, Stephanie has been active for many years in the American Intellectual Property Association (AIPLA), where she has served as the chair and vice chair of the Trademark Law Committee and chair and vice chair of the Trademark Litigation Committee. She currently leads AIPLA’s Women Leaders & Succession Subcommittee within the Women in IP Committee of AIPLA. Stephanie also teaches an advanced trademark law course at American University’s Washington College of Law.

According to partner David Kelly, “Kelly IP is excited about Stephanie’s well-deserved appointment to TPAC. Stephanie’s extensive experience practicing before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and USPTO and her sharp insights on policy issues confronted by the USPTO will be of great value to the committee. Stephanie is Kelly IP’s second partner to serve on TPAC following Linda McLeod’s three-year term from 2011-2014.The firm is proud of the important work being done by Stephanie, Linda, and Kelly IP’s other lawyers through advisory committees and bar associations to advance the interests of all trademark owners and enhance the U.S. trademark system.”
